A friend gave me a computer and he couldn’t remember what he had installed on the computer when he had it upgraded for gaming (video/graphics card, gaming software). How can I find the properties of these items. I was told that it is hard to find and I was hopeing to wipe my computer and reinstall everything on it but dont have any of the programs. Please help. Also , he didnt have the backup disc for the computer, how can I go about getting one so I can wipe the computer and start over, it is really slow and I think I may have a virus or something that my zone alarm isnt taking care of. Thanks, for any help, I am a dummy when it comes to computers.
If I wipe it will windows xp be reinstalled with the back up disc?

click start then run then in the box type dxdiag and hit enter…this will bring up a window showing you all the information on your CPU,memory, video, sound hardware etc…the below options will work but will not tell you how much video memory you have as well as all the other info….

LOL……..Go to
Start
Settings
System then tab over to hardware and go to device manager
then it will show each device and video adapter type.
If it doesnt make sense/have trouble send me a message.

If the driver was never installed for the video card it wont shot up in Display/Adapters.. Gona need a new XP disc to reformat.
Make sure you back up your documents (word, excel , pictures etc) before you wipe it clean.

Computer Slow
Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:
……
Can’t live without it and windows…
Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don’t need.
Other things to try:
1 – Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 – Defrag
3 – Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)
FROM A HARDWARE PERSPECTIVE THE BEST AND MOST COST EFFECTIVE POSSIBLE UPGRADE (IN GENERAL) IS THE ADDITION OF MORE MEMORY (RAM).
ALL ELSE FAILS – RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!
